JAZZ AT LUNCHTIME

"Scenic Scotland"

RADISSON SAS HOTEL, ROYAL MILE, EDINBURGH

WE HAD A VERY SUCCESSFUL FRINGE IN 2008 WITH MOST SHOWS SELLING OUT!

WE'LL BE BACK AT THE RADISSON IN 2009 - HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
(Friday 7th to Monday 31st August 2009)

Ian Millar and Dominic Spencer received a “Sell Out Show Award” for the 2007 Edinburgh Fringe Festival with their “Jazz at Lunchtime” show at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, and are continuing with a series of regular Sunday lunchtimes outwith the festival, as well as peforming every day again in the 2008 Fringe.

These two musicians have been playing all over rural Scotland in recent years, often bringing jazz to rural communities for the first time. The beautiful Scottish scenery that they have seen on their travels has inspired the writing of many pieces of music - their latest CD is called “The Isle of Skye” and was promoted by them during a mini tour of the island.

They have now embarked on a new venture - that of capturing the atmosphere of scenic Scotland and putting it onto video and using it as a backdrop to their music at concerts. It adds atmosphere to the concert and helps to create inspiration for their improvised music.

REVIEW - Three Weeks

Jazz At Lunchtime
Ian Millar & Dominic Spencer

I'm sat in the candlelit cellar bar at the Radisson Hotel, having some lunch in front of two jazz musicians playing against a backdrop of the beautiful Scottish scenery. This is 'Jazz At Lunchtime', and I love it. Although I was slightly apprehensive about the use of footage from Glencoe, Pittenweem, and Edinburgh's very own Salisbury Crags (after all, jazz isn't often associated with heather and hairy Highland cattle), I thought it fitted in with the silky music surprisingly well. Millar and Spencer performed classic jazz standards as well as original compositions, and proved themselves to be extremley talented musicians. Very cool music played in a magical atmosphere - this will appeal to jazz novices as well as hardcore enthusiasts.
